The AKG K845BT in Persona 5

Futaba Sakura's headphones aren't generic anime accessories. They're real AKG K845BTs — and Atlus partnered with AKG to manufacture a limited Phantom Thieves edition.

The Scene

Futaba Sakura is the Phantom Thieves' navigator — a teenage hacking prodigy who operates from a bedroom stuffed with monitors, figurines, and enough computing hardware to make a small data center jealous. Her most distinctive visual element, apart from her glasses, is a pair of large over-ear headphones that she wears constantly, even in combat. They're not decorative. They're her connection to the digital world she navigates with supernatural precision.

In Persona 5 and its expanded version Persona 5 Royal, Futaba's headphones are modeled on the AKG K845BT — a real wireless Bluetooth headphone from the Austrian audio manufacturer. The match is precise: the distinctive earcup shape, the brushed metal outer housing, the padded headband, and the proportions are all drawn directly from the K845BT's industrial design.

Atlus and AKG formalized the connection with a genuine collaboration. In 2016, they released the "Persona 5 Sakura Futaba Edition" K845BT through AKG's Japanese D-Shop storefront — a limited-run headphone with custom Phantom Thieves branding, priced at ¥39,800 (approximately $371 USD at the time). Pre-orders ran from July 19 to October 3, 2016, with delivery in December.

The Gear

The AKG K845BT is a closed-back, over-ear Bluetooth headphone that was part of AKG's premium consumer lineup. It features 50mm drivers, a frequency response of 18Hz–22kHz, aptX Bluetooth codec support, and approximately 20 hours of wireless battery life. The build combines a brushed aluminum earcup housing with memory foam ear cushions wrapped in protein leather.

AKG — founded in Vienna in 1947 as Akustische und Kino-Geräte (Acoustic and Cinema Equipment) — is one of the most respected names in professional and audiophile audio. Their studio microphones (C414, C12) are industry standards. The K845BT brought that heritage into the wireless consumer space at a time when Bluetooth audio was still fighting for audiophile credibility.

The Persona 5 limited edition added custom packaging, a Phantom Thieves color scheme, and Atlus branding — but the underlying hardware was identical to the standard K845BT. This meant buyers got a genuinely capable audiophile-grade headphone, not a cheap promotional item with a franchise sticker on it.
